Llama trekking is a great way to get back to nature.
No you don’t ride them! – You lead our experienced pack animals either on site for a shorter trek to our nature reserve and around the site, or offsite for longer treks to lakes, forests or woodland walks around the country.
What is llama trekking?
Llamas are gentle, inquisitive creatures that exude an air of calmness and tranquillity.
They love human company and enjoy working with their human companions. They are a pack animal and able to carry up to one third of their own body weight over a variety of terrains. They are often called ‘the dolphins’ of the animal world and trekking through the countryside provides a relaxing, de-stressing experience in addition to providing positive health benefits in walking at the regular pace encouraged by the llamas.
This unusual and fun activity is offered on a pre-booked basis during the week or by special arrangement on evenings or weekends. Subsidies can be accessed by our specified beneficiary groups and this can be linked, where appropriate, to certified learning programmes about health & fitness and the natural environment.
The therapeutic sessions with llamas cover a wide range of activities both on and off sites to woodlands and nature reserves. Incorporated in the activities are environmental education, discussions on healthy eating, exercise for fun, llama and environmental arts and crafts. and AQA units of achievement are awarded.
Llama trekking also operates as part of the 'Fun on the Farm' activities so shorter treks suitable for less able children are accessed on a regular basis.
